Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
With the first season of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Incredible Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?
So if the writers aren’t being guided by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.
“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Of course, one could always use the classics?
“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
