Two Victims Named in Brown University Incident as Police Press On With Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who died in the recent mass shooting in Providence were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies publicly, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

His name was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were injured in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a search at a hotel about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our community”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official reported to the Associated Press.

Officers that raided the inn found two firearms and two ammunition clips when the individual was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one pupil was discharged from care, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only in her youth... but at Brown she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and peers,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and peers and lament the passing of his potential.”
