This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
