The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
