The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."

The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.

In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."

"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.

The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
