Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
