Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
